The TB133 test procedure is designed to test seating furniture for use in occupancies
that are identified as or considered to be public occupancies. It is the intent of the
Bureau that furniture complying with Technical Bulletin 133 be safer furniture when
subjected to the ignition source specified by this test. This Bureau expects manufacturers
attempting to comply with this standard will also see to making safer furniture and
will not attempt to compromise the intent of this standard in any manner.
National provides TB133 testing services for COM (Customer's Own Material),
COL (Customer's Own Leather) and Alliance partner upholstery orders. COM, COL and
Alliance partner upholstery must first be evaluated for application approval,
prior to TB133 approval.
To assist you with fabric selections when specifying COM TB133 fabrics, the below
list can be used as a guideline for currently acceptable fabric contents for TB133.
Recycled Polyester is considered the equivalent to Polyester in the list below.

95% Polyester, 5% Rayon
87% Polyester, 13% Rayon
80% Polyester, 20% Olefin
80% Polyester, 20% Acrylic
75% Polyester, 17% Olefin, 8% Acrylic
75% Polyester, 25% Rayon
58% Polyester, 42% Olefin
57% Polyester, 43% Olefin
50% Polyester, 25% Acrylic, 25% Cotton
49% Polyester, 51% Acrylic
48% Polyester, 53% Cotton
30% Polyester, 42% Cotton, 28% Rayon
25% Polyester, 75% Rayon
100% Wool
75% Wool, 25% Nylon
53% Wool, 48% Nylon
100% Leather
* Note: The above list will facilitate the search for acceptable fabrics.
Final TB133 testing and approval is still required for all COM TB133
fabrics, including Crypton fabrics.

National will determine:
a. if the fabric is similar to a previously approved fabric
for the chair model
b. if additional testing is requested due to no similar test
for the model/upholstery combination
c. if the combination will not meet TB133 requirements based
on previous testing

If a burn test is required, pricing for the test is $1,300 list,
including shipping, for the testing services, plus the chair price
of a test sample.
a. COM price is invoiced at National upholstery price Grade 2,
plus the cost of the COM
b. COL is invoiced at price Grade 3, plus the cost of the leather
c. All Alliance partner orders must be custom quoted

If the model/upholstery combination passes testing, TB133 certification will be sent to you, at which time you may place your seating order.
