From the Challenges to the Results...
Due to the growth of operations, First Army, Division West’s headquarters and
220-plus personnel needed to be relocated to another building. The U.S. Army
facility, originally a Korean War era barracks, was renovated to accommodate
Division West’s specialized functions but still presented many challenges.
Compact office spaces and open areas required flexibility for training,
communications, logistics and other operations; therefore, needing functional,
durable and efficient furnishings with the clean, sharp look for which the Army
is renowned. Plus, an array of styles and materials would be required to answer
needs for administrative functions and provide desired aesthetics in command
areas, which are similar to corporate executive offices.
Fort Carson project leaders selected National Office Furniture for its quality.
"It reflects what we needed... the function, the look, the feel, everything,"
says Captain Bishop Garrison.
The solution took shape in a selection of a dozen different National products.
From desks, WaveWorks’ modularity
provided high performance and flexibility to support sophisticated intelligence
while EnvyWorks brought
durable laminate to task-intensive administrative areas. Additionally,
Escalade made an elegant statement in the reception area and Commanding
General’s suite, while Hiland
and Arrowood delivered
the right blend of contemporary style and function to offices for other ranks.
The depth of National’s seating lines—including
Admire and Arlington
guest models and Medalist,
Fuel and
Mix-it management chairs—added value that helped the Army stretch its
budget to acquire much needed additional desks.
Monterrey lounge accommodated lobby areas and the Chaplain’s offices
with simple comfort.
Finishing out the National product mix, conference tables in round, racetrack
and rectangular shapes provided the choices needed to properly equip meeting
rooms and in-office conference areas.
Additionally, another challenge arose on this project from the fact that the
renovated barracks had no loading dock or elevators. National’s dealer, the
installer and the contractor overcame this challenge with a hoist system that
brought the furnishings into the building via windows.
