Chicago Showroom Builds Skills and Relationships with Chicago’s Youth

National’s Chicago showroom was transformed into a playground when we hosted the 2nd annual Refortify event. This three-day event was organized by two local non-profit organizations (Breakthrough Urban Ministries and Refortify Group) and brought over 200 architects, designers, vendors, and visitors into our space. Twelve forts were designed and constructed by the students participating in Breakthrough and Refortify’s afterschool program. They worked diligently to complete their unique designs made of clothing and materials which would be donated to Breakthrough’s ministries at the end of the event.

Breakthrough Urban Ministries is a community outreach program that provides shelters for the homeless, job training, career clothing, and youth skills development. Refortify Group is a non-profit organization comprised of architects and designers that create curriculum and volunteer their time to bring design-minded education to Breakthrough’s youth program.
